Man stabbed in leg inside Victoria Centre discharged from hospital with investigations ongoing

Police in attendance at the scene on Sunday

A man who was stabbed in the leg inside the Victoria Centre at the weekend has been discharged from hospital as police investigations continue.

A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with a single stab wound to his leg following the incident involving two other men in the intu Victoria Centre at around 2.10pm on Sunday (June 17).

He has since been discharged from hospital.

A police cordon was in place at the Victoria Centre

Chief Inspector Donna Lawton said: “I understand completely people will be concerned that this has happened but we are doing everything we can to find out who is responsible.

“We are following up a number of lines of enquiry including CCTV and have stepped up visible patrols.

“Even if you can’t see our officers, they may still be there as we also have officers in plain clothes as part of the ongoing policing tactic to keep the people of Nottinghamshire safe.

“Nottinghamshire Police is the only force outside the Metropolitan Police to have a dedicated knife crime team who use intelligence-led stop and search tactics to catch those who carry knives.

“We have also reintroduced schools and early intervention officers to help educate young people about the dangers of carrying weapons.

“We work alongside partner agencies and our community to tackle the issue because we work best when we all work as a team.

“We would urge people to keep working with us and if they suspect anyone of carrying a knife to call us so we can take action to keep knives off our streets.

“Our focus as always is keeping people safe and we can do that best when people give us as much information as possible about any concerns they have.”
