A man will punch a bag full of milk for a piece of performance art in Nottingham next month.

Artist Franko B’s act Milk & Blood will appear at Backlit Gallery, on Ashley Street, Sneinton on March 10.

The performance is designed to explore the themes of pain, eroticism, revulsion, ecstasy and masculinity and involves Franko B boxing for thirteen rounds of two minutes, as milk seeps from the bag.

The show has toured elsewhere with performances in Sardinia, Leeds and London.

Performance art is performed by people using their bodies as pieces of work to express ideas, thoughts and metaphors.

Franko B, who is based in London but was born in Italy, said: “Looking introspectively, I can truly say that I have successfully wrecked my career as a ‘bleeding’ artist and continued my lust for life thanks to language.”

Speaking about the performance on Notts Tonight, director of Backlit Gallery, Matthew Chesney said: “It’s an endurance performance that really pushes him mentally and physically.

“It’s this idea of representation of modern 21st century life; there’s a struggle, a social struggle, it’s about love and passion.

“Every time he impacts the golden punchbag, milk seeps.

“In that respect, it’s very visceral and there’s this idea of motherhood and aggression; it’s him pushing himself and asking what it means to be a human when you push yourself physically and emotionally.”
