Man’s body recovered from canal not being treated as suspicious incident say detectives

Detectives carrying out investigations into the death of man whose body was recovered from the canal off Carrington Street say the incident is not suspicious.

Police were called to the scene at 7.36am on Wednesday with officers attending along with fire and ambulance services.

Fire crews from London Road and Highfields, including the Specialist Rescue Unit, were called at around 7.42am.

The man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre but was later pronounced dead.

The road was closed during rush hour causing traffic disruption around the city with some disruption still reported.

A post-mortem examination will be undertaken to determine the cause of death.
