Mansfield Town appoint youngest manager in Football League

Mansfield Town have appointed Adam Murray as player-manager following Paul Cox’s exit last month, making him the youngest manager in the Premier and Football leagues at the age of 33.

The midfielder-turned-manager has made 500 career appearances at clubs including Derby County, Notts County and three spells at Mansfield.

During his time at the club he has made more than 180 appearances and was assistant manager under Cox before taking over in a caretaker capacity following his predecessor’s departure.

Under his stewardship, Mansfield beat Plymouth Argyle 1-0 for their first win in nine league matches and have progressed into the second round of the FA Cup.

The Stags will be in FA Cup action on Saturday when they face Cambridge United and Murray will be hoping to improve the league position from 18th in the table.

The manager has wasted little time in adding to his squad as he awarded an 18-month professional contract to 17-year-old youth team striker Dan Fletcher.
