Three men were spoken to by police after a call from a member of the public.

Three men holding a religious demonstration in Old Market Square were dispersed by police after a member of the public complained.

Officers said they were called to reports of a “public order incident” outside the Council House this afternoon (June 13) – where members of a group could be seen holding placards with the wording “Evolution Is A Lie” and using a megaphone.

The men gathered around 1pm and a crowd of up to 30 people surrounded the group.

The trio were given notices preventing them from returning for 24 hours.

Mansfield vlogger Daniel Stride, 29, watched the demonstration unfolding.

He said: “One of them had a loud hailer [megaphone] and they were picking out people in the crowd as they were walking past.”

A Notts Police spokesman said: “Police were called to Old Market Square just after 1pm to reports of a public order incident outside the Council House.

“Three men were issued with a dispersal order which prevents them entering the area within 24 hours.”

Mr Stride added: “It was a good hour before police arrived. The crowd started off with around five people and got to about 20 to 30 people.”
