More Home Care workers for Nott’s vulnerable

Nottingham City Council is helping to recruit more Home Care workers to ensure people can remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

The Home Care workers will work in partnership with health workers, voluntary agencies and independent care providers to give residents the best possible service.

With flexible hours, the jobs can be full-time or part-time, working across Nottingham, and no previous experience is needed, as training and support will be provided.

Staff will also have the opportunity to work towards a professional qualification in health and social care.

Helping with personal care and practical every day tasks, the workers will have a variety of jobs, from washing and dressing the residents to cooking for them or taking them shopping.

The workers will be helping vulnerable individuals “live their lives to the full” according to Councillor Alex Norris.

Cllr Norris, portfolio holder for Adults, Commissioning and Health, said:

With our ageing population, care workers have never been more in demand – there’s never been a better time to show you care.

Cllr Alex Norris

“You could make a real difference to a vulnerable person’s life- often when it comes to companionship, you could be the only person that client sees that day.”

For most of 2014, the Council supported the recruitment of 10-12 vacancies per month , which could potentially increase to 10-15 per month this year.

Richelle Bacon, a Home Care worker at Nationwide Care Services would like to see more people choose a career like hers.

I would encourage anyone thinking of becoming a Home Care worker to do it.

Richelle Bacon, Home Care

“I genuinely believe in helping vulnerable people. Making a difference to peoples’ lives gives me the career motivation I need.”
