A range of new businesses could be moving into Beeston’s cinema complex as part of the town’s major project.

Phase two of ‘The Square’ project is underway and businesses including a virtual reality gaming company, a shisha bar and a desserts company could be moving to the site soon.

Broxtowe Borough Council documents state that units two, three and six are being fitted out with target opening dates around Easter.

Another unit is also under offer for a desserts company.

Councillor Milan Radulovic, leader of the council, had previously said he wanted the site to be “Beeston’s answer to Nottingham’s Cornerhouse”.

The project is part of a wider £50m Beeston Square development scheme, which includes the building of 132 homes opposite the cinema site, which opened last May.

Plans are also underway to redevelop the empty Argos store in the square.

The council has revealed tenders have been received for refreshing the building and work is due to start around the beginning of April, subject to planning consent for shopfronts and canopies.

Offers have been received from a virtual reality gaming company for the first
floor of Argos and from a shisha bar for the ground floor.

The authority said that subject to lease negotiations, these venues could begin trading in the summer.

Councillors will be asked to note the progress during the Policy and Performance Committee on March 24.
