Nottingham City Council wants to build around 24 new council houses in St Ann’s as part of its plans to reduce homelessness.

Nottingham City Council’s Executive Board is to approve the budget for the plans when they meet on Tuesday, February 22.

The Labour-run authority wants to develop the site of the former Oakdene Day Centre in Woodborough Road, with around 24 new council homes to be let at affordable rents.

The new homes will be 40 per cent funded through a government fund to help council’s build more social and affordable homes.

The rest will come from borrowing and Section 106 contributions – which is money given to local authorities by developers to put into community use.

The council said: “This development will contribute towards achieving the council’s commitment to increase the number of social, affordable and homes for the homeless by 1,000 by 2023.”

Plans to transform the former day centre site, which has been demolished, into new council homes was made under a delegated decision.

The council had approved the construction of 48 new council homes on the site. This scheme has now been scaled back as it could not be contained within the approved costs.

The council says the revised scheme and its budget is significantly different so new approval is being sought.

The scheme will be submitted for planning approval and will go through formal planning consultation. The scheme is for 24 homes including ten 2 bed houses, five 3 bed houses and nine 1 bed apartments.

The council said: “All these homes are in high demand in St Ann’s.”
