New housing on Arkwright Walk in The Meadows expected to be finished in next two years

New housing on Arkwright Walk in The Meadows is expected to be completed in the next two years, according to councillors.

The green light has been given by Nottingham City Council for over 100 new homes to be built on Arkwright Walk by property developers Keepmoat.

According to Bridge Ward councillors, building is due to start in April and prospective buyers will be able to purchase the properties within 12 months.

Portfolio Holder for Community Services and Bridge Ward councillor Nicola Heaton said: “It will be really nice to see those go up for people to have more choice of housing if they want to live in The Meadows.

“It’s being opened up to reflect the old Arkwright Street so that people can walk from the station to the City Ground.

“It reflects the old street layout rather than what happened in the 70s in terms of the new building that happened then.”

The new homes come as part of an £18million regeneration project for The Meadows.

The Walk has already been widened to give pedestrians and cyclists direct access from the train station to the City Ground.

Bridge Ward councillor Michael Edwards says plans are in place for the wider regeneration of The Meadows.

He said: “On Arkwright Walk itself, we are looking to introduce a bus service.

“That’s both to make bus services even more convenient for local residents and also to give important places around The Meadows important routes of their own.”
