Nigel Clough says dad Brian would have “loved” new Forest exhibition

Nigel Clough has said his dad Brian would have ‘loved’ a new exhibition celebrating Forest’s greatest achievements with fans’ memorabilia.

The display, at Nottingham Contemporary, is called City of Miracles: Stories from the Crowd.

It will run from tomorrow (Saturday, September 19) until Monday and features match shirts, Forest’s copy of the European Cup, and fans’ mementos from the Reds’ glory days.

The event is part of the build-up to the release of hotly-anticipated documentary film I Believe in Miracles, which chronicles the club’s 1979 European Cup win.

Nigel was among former players and relatives of both Brian and his managerial sidekick Peter Taylor who got a private preview of the exhibition this afternoon.

Nigel, 49, who carved a legend for himself at Forest by playing more than three hundred games as a striker, said: “The success wasn’t all just football-related. It was to do with the city and going around Europe, and I think experiences that I think a lot of people wouldn’t have had otherwise if he (Brian) hadn’t have taken them there.”

Of the exhibition he added: “He would have I think been very impressed. He would have loved to have seen all the old memorabilia and some of the photos.

“I think more than anything he would have loved to have met up with the players again. He saw them a little bit before he died, and every time he did, it brought back good memories for him.”

Brian Clough died in 2004 aged 69. A prolific striker during his own playing days, he is most fondly remembered for securing successive European Cups with Forest in 1979 and 1980, and also winning the League with Forest and Derby.

I Believe in Miracles has been made in Nottingham by director Jonny Owen and will premiere at the City Ground on Sunday, October 11.

It was made with support from Nottingham production company Spool and Steve Coogan’s Baby Cow productions.
