A beauty salon in Sherwood could be transformed into a supported living complex to help take pressure off the local NHS.
The building sits at the junction of Hucknall Road and Teesdale Road and the applicant, Hockley Developments, has submitted plans for a three-storey building with a total of 12 one-bed flats.
It says the plans will “assist Nottingham City Council in meeting their supported living provision targets”, while it may also help take pressure off the NHS.
In planning documents submitted to the council, Hockley Developments says: “Supported living allows these citizens to have independence and relieves pressure off residential care facilities, and in hand relieving pressure on the NHS from people ‘bed-blocking’.
“In 2017, 23.4 per cent of people [needing care] lived in supported living dwellings and 76.6 per cent in full residential care. Whereas, in 2021, 40 per cent of people lived in supported living and 60 per cent in residential care. This is a large increase in supported living accommodation and is set to continue to rise.”
The building, should it be approved, would feature a communal space as well as staff facilities.
Hockley Developments says it is aiming to provide “attractive and high-quality supported living flats for local citizens”.
Those living in the flats are not expected to use their own personal vehicles, and the only parking requirements will be for staff and visitors.
There will also be two parking spaces at the front of the property.
The developer adds: “There is a high demand for supported living dwellings within the general area.
“This proposal will add a different type of residential accommodation to the area and broaden the mix of housing in Sherwood.
“The application proposal design has been carefully considered to provide an attractive and on-intrusive building on its prominent corner plot.”
Nottingham City Council will decide the plans at a later date.
