Nottingham father and daughter killed in caravan park fire

Esme Baker, 10, and her father Lee Baker, 48, from Nottinghamshire, both died in the fire at Golden Beach Holiday Park in the early hours of Saturday, April 5.

Two people who died in a fire at a caravan park near Skegness have been named as as father and daughter from Nottingham.

Lincolnshire Police say Lee Baker, 48, and his 10-year-old daughter Esme Baker were killed in the incident, which happened Golden Beach Holiday Park on Saturday (April 5).

Both were from the Nottingham area, and were enjoying a break on the first weekend of the school Easter holidays.

In a statement a family spokesperson said: “We are all utterly devastated at what’s happened. This loss is incomprehensible at the moment, and we ask for people to give us space to process this utterly heartbreaking loss.”

Emergency services were called to the caravan at the park, at Roman Bank, Ingoldmells, at 3.53 am on Saturday.

Crews from four Lincolnshire fire stations were called to the blaze, but Mr Baker and Esme were both killed in the fire.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, involving both Lincolnshire Police and Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Senior Investigating Officer, Det Insp Lee Nixon, of Lincolnshire Police, said officers were close to developing a “working hypothesis” on what may have caused the fire.

He added: “We are working hard to validate the facts available to us to be able to provide answers for the family and loved ones of those who were very tragically taken by this fire. Yet the evident intensity of the fire has made this task incredibly challenging.”

Dan Moss, area manager for prevention and protection at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family at this time. Our Fire Investigation Team is working with colleagues from Lincolnshire Police, and a full investigation into the cause of the fire is on-going.

“Once investigations are complete, local fire crews and our community fire safety team will be on hand to talk to people in the area and address any fire safety concerns they may have, at what will be an upsetting time.”

In a statement, Golden Beach Holiday Park said on Saturday: “On behalf of everyone at Golden Beach Holiday Park we would like to send our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and friends affected by today’s tragic events.

“We would like to thank all the emergency services for their help and continued support. We ask for patience and privacy whilst they carry out their investigations. Our thoughts are with everyone affected at this time.”
