Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi issues statement to supporters

Nottingham-Forest

Nottingham Forest’s chairman and owner hopes new boss Dougie Freedman will be with the club for many years, according to an official statement.

The statement, which was issued to the club’s supporters on Thursday by owner Fawaz Al Hasawi, addresses recent reports regarding the length of Freedman’s contract.

“When Dougie and I discussed the role we mutually agreed an 18-month deal, which is what is currently in place,” said Al Hasawi.

“Within that deal we agreed a clause which presents both parties with the opportunity to review their position in the summer.”

Formality

The Kuwaiti businessman, who bought the club in July 2012, then moved to remind fans that the clause is merely a formality that is very common in sport.

“I hope Dougie will be with us for many years and we will continue to work together in our attempts to bring success back to this great club,” he added.

In the statement, Al Hasawi expressed disappointment with the way a recent media interview had been reported.

These comments come after an interview with the club’s owner on Wednesday revealed that Forest’s new manager, Dougie Freedman, had only been signed on a three-month deal.

“I hope Dougie will be with us for many years…”

However, Al Hasawi said in his latest statement, which was published on the club’s website, that he was saddened with the way this news was portrayed by the media.

“I have decided to restrict my interviews to the club’s website only from now on,” he said.

“I would like to thank our fans for their continued support.”
