Nottingham Caribbean Carnival is back with its legendary parade, live music and entertainment expected to bring thousands of people to the Victoria Embankment.
The two-day event will be at the embankment for the entire weekend this year, after the 2015 site was shared with the Forest Rec.
Crowds on Saturday will be entertained by live music and the legendary parade is being held on Sunday.
Up to 30,000 people are expected to attend and defy a changeable weather forecast, with sunshine and showers both a possibility for Saturday and dry weather predicted on Sunday.
The famous costumed parade and music festival will both be at the Embankment this year
Carnival director Richard Renwick said: “This year we’ve brought the whole event to one place – the embankment – so in one spot people can see the parade, the festivities and music in one concentration of carnival art.
“Bad weather, if it comes, never stops carnival and never stops the party atmosphere. It never stops the enthusiasm of the artists and the spectators, it’s going to be a great weekend.”
The carnival site is open midday to 8pm on both days. For Saturday’s music festival there is an admission fee of £2 for adults, £1 for children under the age of 12, and toddlers go free.
The carnival parade is on the Sunday, starting at 2pm and is free.
The 2016 carnival plan and full line-up
Parking is available at £5 per day for both days, on the embankment playing fields.
This year’s parade will involve hundreds of colourful costumes in troupes which will dance along the riverside and through the Meadows.
They will return to the park for a funfair, food stalls and artefacts and music.
