Nottingham will host auditions for a dog to star in a musical that has featured on Broadway and the West End.

Producers of Legally Blonde The Musical have already cast the chihuahua called ‘Bruiser’ who will go on tour at every show but have decided to hold auditions for the other dog ‘Rufus’ in every town and city on the tour.

The chosen dog will star alongside EastEnders’ Rita Simons, Lucie Jones who represented the UK at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest and Bill Ward of Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

Associate director of Legally Blonde The Musical David Barrett said: “This show is all about stereotypes and not judging a book by its cover and the dogs are no different in this.

“So whereas Bruiser is the cute, tiny, adorable one, with Rufus we are looking for the total opposite.

“We are looking for a big, brutish dog that only its mother could love – preferably a bulldog as in the film but we are certainly open to options.”

Auditions for Nottingham will be held at the Nottingham Tennis Centre on Saturday February 3.

Legally Blonde The Musical is a romantic comedy based on the film starring Reese Witherspooon.

The musical has earned seven Tony nominations and 10 Drama Desk award nominations on its Broadway run.

In the UK, it was nominated for five Laurence Olivier Awards winning three including Best New Musical and was nominated for eight Whatsonstage Awards winning four including Best Musical.

Legally Blonde The Musical comes to the Theatre Royal on Tuesday May 15 until Saturday May 19 with tickets and more information available here.
