Nottingham man David Dixon has been confirmed dead following the Brussels terror attacks.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office made the announcement on Saturday, ending a desperate search for him which began after Tuesday’s bombings.

Mr Dixon lived and worked in the Belgian capital as an IT expert but had a home in Mapperley.

He had texted relatives after the airport bombing early on Tuesday to say he was safe, but is then believed to have been caught up in the blast at the city’s Maelbeek metro station as he travelled to work.

Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted to say he was “deeply saddened” by the news.

Around 34 people died in the attacks carried out by Islamic State militants.

A huge social media campaign had been run by friends and family to try to find Mr Dixon after he failed to arrive at work.
