Nottingham Rugby still aiming for Championship play-offs despite eight point gap

Nottingham Rugby is still aiming for the Championship play-offs despite being eight points adrift of the top four.

The green and whites currently sit eighth in the Championship after losing 60-14 at London Irish in their last outing.

Assistant first XV coach Alex O’Dowd thinks Nottingham have the credentials to push for the top four.

Speaking on Sports Week, he said: “You have to analyse your performance and look at the areas that you did well, look at the areas you can improve in and look at the areas where you really struggled.

“Sometimes, with performances like the one against London Irish, you’ve got to put it in the bin and move on.

“We have to take the positives out of the season that we’ve worked towards and translate that in your next match.”

Despite the London Irish result, fullback Billy Robinson says Nottingham has reason to be hopeful if they focus on what they did well in their two wins over Leinster.

He said: “What happened against them was a massively disappointing result but we have looked at that performance as a bit of an aberration.

“Both performances against Leinster A in the British & Irish Cup were highlights for us where we played exceptionally well in both games.

“They have perennially been a successful side in that competition and the first team is one of the dominant sides in Europe so they are a massive scalp.”
