Nottingham salons inspired by cancer patient’s hair loss going from strength to strength

Nottingham salons that were set up to help cancer patients combat hair loss during their treatment are being praised by industry professionals.

Hairven was set up in 2011 in Gedling by Colette Osborne after being inspired by her late mother in law’s battle with cancer with another branch in Beeston having opened this year.

Colette revealed that her mother in law, Wendy, had a bad experience in a salon during her treatment of chemotherapy which can cause hair loss.

I needed to change that

Colette said: “The way that Wendy was treated was so bad that she would not go out the house.

“One visit to the salon destroyed her self-esteem in two seconds.

“Just because you’ve had chemotherapy, lost your hair and wear a hair piece doesn’t mean you can’t walk into a glamorous salon and be treated properly; I needed to change that.”

We’re really doing something to be proud of

The salon recently won the prize of team of the year at the Salon Business Awards.

Salon manager at Beeston branch of Hairven Lauren Jones said: “Because the back story of the salon is for a purpose, nobody wants to let that down.

“We’re really doing something to be proud of because we’re not just doing it to make money like a normal business.”
