Nottingham students built igloo to shelter from ‘Snowmageddon’

A group of third year students from the University of Nottingham dealt with the ‘Beast from the East’ cold spell by building their own igloo in their back garden – complete with attached beer fridge.

The four students on Kimbolton Avenue, Lenton, shovelled snow into two recycling bins using chopping boards and small buckets after the city was covered by a blanket of snow on Thursday (March 1).

The group used chopping boards and small buckets to put the snow into wheelie bins.

The group ended up spending three hours carting 20 bin fulls of snow into their garden and another four hours building the shelter, complete with beer fridge.

Mechanical Engineering student George Morgan, said “My friend George Sarson and I had the idea. We were so happy how everyone responded to it. We can’t wait for the next chance to build another igloo.”

Around 1,500 people ‘liked’ a post about the build on Facebook and hundreds more gave the pictures their approval on Twitter.

It took six people a total of seven hours to complete the igloo and attached fridge.

The finished product included a living room for four and the fridge with two shelves, which they filled with beer.

The igloo lasted over the weekend and melted overnight between Sunday and Monday.
