Final closure dates have been announced for Nottinghamshire’s Toys R Us stores after weeks of uncertainty.

The UK division of the company collapsed into administration in February and has large stores at Riverside Retail Park in Nottingham and St Peter’s Retail Park, Mansfield, plus a shop in the Victoria Centre in Nottingham.

Administrators Moorfields announced on Thursday the Victoria Centre store will close for good on Friday, April 20. The Mansfield outlet will close the next day on Saturday, April 21 and The Riverside outlet will shut on Tuesday, April 23.

Moorfields said all of them will trade as normal until closing time on each date. The sell-off process has led to discounts of 50 per cent on some lines, which has now been extended to 75 per cent.

All 2,054 employees of the UK business have been informed and will be paid up to and including their last day of employment, the administrators added.

Simon Thomas, Joint Administrator and Partner at Moorfields, said: “We are grateful for the hard work of everybody at Toys “R” Us’ during this extremely difficult and challenging time.

“We are working closely with the 2,000 employees affected by the closures to ensure they receive the support they need for redundancy and other compensatory payments.”

Toys R Us had been facing a £15 million tax bill combined with poor sales before its failure in February.
