Nottinghamshire’s Jake Ball “over the moon” after England call-up

Video: Jake Ball delighted with England call-up

Nottinghamshire’s Jake Ball has been called up for international duty and will be in the 12-man squad to face Sri Lanka at Headingley next week.

The previously uncapped seamer, 25, says he is thrilled to be considered for England but will have to battle with Steven Finn for a place in the final team.

Ball, who has 19 wickets in the County Championship this season, is joined in the squad by fellow Notts player and opening batsman Alex Hales.

Ball said: “I’m over the moon with it. It’s something that I have worked towards for a few years now and something I probably didn’t expect to come this quickly but I think if you speak to anybody they would say the same thing.

“I’m just looking to really enjoy it and soaking up every moment. Obviously you dream about it as a kid and since I’ve signed at Notts, it’s sort of been at the back of my mind.”

He added: “You see people come in that have played for England like Stuart (Broad) and Alex (Hales) coming back when they aren’t playing and saying how good it is and how good the experience is.

“To have finally got the nod, I’m really really ecstatic.”

The full test squad: Cook (capt), Ali, Anderson, Bairstow, Ball, Broad, Compton, Finn, Hales, Root, Stokes, Vince.
