A Notts charity is offering a pair of custom hand-painted shoes by an artist as a prize in a fundraising raffle.

The Children’s Bereavement Centre in Newark has already raised £870 in five days in the raffle for a pair of striking hand-painted Converse trainers.

The charity offers help to young people and their families across Nottinghamshire who have experienced terminal illness, divorce or the loss of someone close to them.

Amelia Thompson, who’s painting the shoes, got involved with the charity through their patron Jay McGuiness from The Wanted.

“I’m a fan of the Wanted, and he and his family asked me to do the shoes,” she said.

“I’m excited to do it, the winner can pick whatever they want on the shoes.”

Amelia originally started painting Disney-themed shoes a year ago, after seeing the trend online.

But then she got a request to paint Jay on a pair, and has since expanded into doing other art.

Amelia added: “The charity is for children going through hard times, and anyone who’s ever lost anyone knows how it feels.

“Especially when you’re young, you need more help to get over it.”

The charity’s services allow children to get one-on-one sessions and group activities to help them cope with difficult situations in their lives.

Since painting Disney shoes, Amelia has started doing different projects.

Last year, a supporter made a JustGiving page for the charity with a goal of £50.

They ended up raising £8000.

This year they’ve set the goal at £1,000 but are hoping to surpass that by the time the raffle closes on February 15.
