Notts fundraiser for a young transplant patient

A Long Eaton pub is to hold a Summer Fun Day in order to raise funds for an eight-year-old boy who is in need of a bone marrow transplant.

Adam Dunne suffers from a complex Autoimmune Disease, meaning that his immune system doesn’t work in the same way as everyone else’s.

In the past few months, his condition has deteriorated and as a result, doctors have recommended that he undergoes a bone marrow transplant. His thirteen-year-old sister Amy will be the donor.

Adam, who currently lives in County Dublin, will have to travel from his home to the Newcastle Royal Infirmary for treatment, which could last up to six months.

Adam will have to live away from home for up to six months while he receives his treatment.

Adam’s cousins, the Cleary family, who live in Long Eaton, have organised a family fundraising event at their local pub, The Wilsthorpe Tavern, on Saturday 15th August.

They are hoping that this will help to raise funds for the family to travel and to be by Adam’s hospital bed side.

Shane Cleary, Adam’s first cousin, wants the day to be an enjoyable experience for everyone rather than just focusing on the eight-year-old’s condition.

He said: “The idea behind the day is to support our family during this tough time. The whole family are coming over from Ireland so we want to make it an enjoyable weekend for them all”.

Dave Osborn, an engineer from Long Eaton, is helping to organise the event.

“I’ve known Shane for over thirty years and know his family well,” he said. “He got in contact with me to ask if I could help with the organisation of the event as I have done fundraising in the past.”

“I have two eight year old boys myself and I’m so thankful that they are both healthy. The story really touched me.”

The event hopes to raise around £10,000 and will hold a charity auction. With the top prize being a one week holiday in Costa Blanca, Spain.

Adam is a big Liverpool FC fan so the team are also hoping for their support with the event.
