A man has been charged by police, over a number of public order incidents.

A police officer has been dismissed following a misconduct hearing at Nottinghamshire Police Headquarters chaired by Chief Constable Craig Guildford.

PC Gary Nicholls, 43, based at Worksop Police Station was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in respect of discreditable conduct.

On Tuesday August 2 2016 the officer was convicted by South Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court of assault – he was not on duty at the time of the incident.

Detective Inspector Louis Jordan said: “Nottinghamshire police except the highest standards of behaviour from its staff.

“The conviction of PC Nicholls fundamentally undermines the trust and confidence placed in him by Nottinghamshire Police and damages public confidence in policing.”

On Friday February 3 2017 an appeal against the conviction was not upheld.

Yesterday’s hearing was held in public in accordance with policy and PC Nicholls has the opportunity to appeal the dismissal.
