Notts Paralympic bronze swimmer Charlotte Henshaw: “I was disappointed with my time”

Notts Paralympic medallist Charlotte Henshaw has said that she was ‘disappointed’ with her bronze medal time in Rio this summer.

The Paralympic, world and European championships medallist believes that she could have won more if she swam a time she had achieved earlier in the season.

Although she was disappointed with the time, she was happy with how her summer went.

Speaking on Sports Week, she said: “The summer was brilliant but I was slightly disappointed with the time that I swam in Rio because I have actually swam a little bit quicker at various points throughout this season.

“The time that I swam in Rio would have won the gold by two seconds in London which in swimming is a huge chunk of time.

“It shows how much my sport has progressed in the past four years which for the Paralympics is great but for me, it’s difficult to keep up with the youngsters that are coming through.

“I’m 29 and the gold medallist was only 15!”

An older gentleman dropped my medal on the concrete

Charlotte has been showing her bronze medal hoping to inspire others but has been looked at by others a little too closely.

She said: “My medal has been ‘well loved’ shall we say by the people who have held it over the past few weeks.

“An older gentleman when I took it to a football match wanted to have a look at it and he unfortunately dropped it on the concrete.

“I had to smile and say ‘don’t worry it’s fine’ so it’s got a few scratches but it’s relatively unscathed.

“We want people to see it though and take some inspiration from the medal as it’s not just mine.”
