Nottinghamshire Police are running an internal investigation into an incident which led to a person dying a Newark railway line after ‘contact’ with officers.
‘Operation Throstle’ has been made public for the first time in a Chief Constable’s Update Report which is being presented to Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping.
Afterwards the incident was referred by the force to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) who said they did not need to probe the matter and referred it back to Notts Police.
The report says the ‘tragic incident’ happened on Tuesday, August 9 and body cam footage from an officer had already proved useful in determining what happened.
No further details are provided in the report.
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said that no further information would be released until the investigation concludes.
It is standard procedure for a force to refer a death which happens during or just after contact with officers to the IPCC, which then decides whether to investigate or refer it back to the force involved for an internal probe.
