Notts County striker Jon Stead is likely to feature against Wycombe on Saturday (December 10) and wants to help County find the ‘turning point’ in their season.

He played for 45 minutes in Notts’ reserve game against Sheffield Wednesday at Meadow Lane which finished 3-5 to the away side; Stead scored a brace.

Stead is back earlier than predicted from injury and is focused on helping to turn around Notts’ fortunes.

The Magpies did not pick up a Sky Bet League 2 point in November and currently sit 19th in the league after 19 games on 22 points and with a goal difference of -8.

I’m a couple of weeks ahead of schedule

Stead said: “I’ve been working really hard with the physios and have had long days which footballers aren’t used to.

“I’ve given it everything to try and get back as quick as possible and I’m a couple of weeks ahead of schedule; it’s fantastic and a credit to the physio staff.

“They haven’t taken any risks and have found the fine balance – it’s a strange feeling when you’ve been out for a while and come back on the football pitch so I was a bit rusty but have been enjoying it.”

Video: Manager John Sheridan on getting the points

Manager John Sheridan has said that Notts need to focus on getting points no matter how they play.

He said: “When you look at the next four games they’re all tough.

“We are playing three out of the top seven but I like the look of the games; they will test us and if we can get one or two results against these teams who are going really well it will give us a little bit of confidence.

“Wycombe will be a real tough game and the team works really hard, especially when they’ve got players like big Akinfenwa and Hayes.”
