Person dies after being hit by train at Newark Northgate Station

A person has died after being hit by a train at Newark Northgate Station.

British Transport Police are working to identify the person and inform their family. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The line is currently open but the station is expected to close shortly, according to East Midlands Trains.

Services on the Leicester, Lincoln and Grimsby route are disrupted.

The British Transport Police were called to the incident at 10.47am this morning (Friday January 26).

Officers and paramedics are currently at the scene.

East Midlands Trains issued a statement which said: “Network Rail teams are being mobilised and are expected on site shortly.

“The 11.35 Lincoln to Newark Northgate has been cancelled and our 12.06 Newark Northgate to Grimsby service will start from Lincoln.

“At present we do not have an estimate of when service will resume but we will communicate this out shortly.

“We are currently looking at alternative arrangements to keep you on the move.”
