More than 1,900 police officers now work across Nottinghamshire

The number of officers at Nottinghamshire Police has increased compared to this time last year, according to the force.

Latest figures show an increase of 58 officers when comparing now to April 2017.

A total of 1,909 police officers are currently employed and working throughout Nottinghamshire.

Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: “The figures are hugely encouraging and show we are continuing to attract good people as an employer of choice.

“This year we are recruiting an additional 200 officers, taking the overall establishment with part-time officers to almost 2,000.

“This is firmly in line with my commitment to bolstering our frontline resources.

“We want to continue to attract and retain talented people with a diverse range of skills, experience and from a range of backgrounds who are committed to making us better at both what we do and how we do it.

“We have worked hard with our recruitment drives over the past 12-months and it’s fantastic to see so many new officers arriving.

“Their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn combined with the wealth of experience and hard workers within our existing workforce bodes well for the future.

“The work is continuing with three in-takes of officers who started their training in March with further cohorts joining the force this year including a triple-header in June.

“I’d like to pass on my thanks to all the staff within the Human Resources and Training departments who have worked solidly to ensure our commitment to increase numbers is realised.”

There are 58 more officers compared to this time last year

Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping said: “This is a real tangible increase in officers, demonstrating we are doing exactly what we promised.

“People will not only see more officers on the streets and in their communities but there will be greater capacity to tackle hidden crime, serious violence and burglary.

“The force and I are determined to see a workforce that truly represents our communities.

“But there is always more to do but I know Nottinghamshire Police is a great place to work, offering excellent career opportunities with the support to help people realise their ambitions.”

Police staff numbers have remained static and numbers of acting and temporary roles have also reduced, with annual promotion processes introduced.

Inspector Anwaar Ahmed said: “Working with front-line staff as part of the response team, you can start to see numbers increasing and that’s crucial as we ensure we are there for when you need us, throughout Nottinghamshire.

“By increasing officer levels, we will be able to continue to increase our visibility and engagement throughout our neighbourhoods.

“Having worked for the force for 17 years, the difference to officer numbers makes a huge difference in managing our workload and I’m delighted that recruitment is going to increase this.”

Nottinghamshire Police will become the first force to launch the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) in September 2018 in partnership with the University of Derby.
