Panthers sign new Austrian Defence man

Panthers Highlights

The Nottingham Panthers will be welcoming a new player in the form of Austrian international defence man Andreas Wiedergut.

An agreement has been made for Wiedergut to join the Nottingham Panthers initially on a short-term basis.

The 27-year-old, who has 250 games in the top flight in Austria on his resume at Villacher, Saltzburg and Graz, during which time he helped in the winning of two championships, flew out to the UK yesterday afternoon.

Head coach Corey Neilson said: “Andreas wants to prove himself, he had a fraught year last season with various issues but he comes highly recommended by a good friend of mine who doesn’t hand out positive appraisals too often.

“That contact tells me Andreas is a stay at home, solid, defenceman.”

“Andreas knows where we are at with recruitment and he jumped at the chance of joining us while we finalise the last position on the roster. To say he’s full of enthusiasm for his chance would be an understatement.”
