People nearing retirement abseil down Thoresby Hall

Some over 55-year-old’s abseiled down a seventy five foot clock tower at Thoresby Hall near Ollerton.

The grade 2 listed building, Thoresby Hall, is introducing a ‘Living Life on the Edge’ activity series in response to a poll where they found that 50% of guests over 55 wanted to try more adrenalin seeking activities.

The over 55’s attached their harnesses so they could abseil down the grand Victorian building which is set in thirty acres of gardens, nearby Sherwood Forest.

Nick Jones, Entertainment and Experience Manager at Thoresby Hall, said: “What better place to do some abseiling than down a 400-year-old building surrounded by Sherwood Forest.”

Around 20 people took part in the debut event and abseiled down the building.

The participants all seemed to have high praise for the days activity and were keen to get involved.

One of the men taking part said: “It’s getting to the days where my knees are going so it’s really nice to have a go at something different and it’s been absolutely exhilarating.”

The hotel plans to introduce more activities to satisfy older adrenalin junkies including activities like zorbing and paddle boarding in the near future.
