Police dive team pull old Ford Capri from Regatta Lake

Mystery case as police find Ford Capri at the bottom of Regatta Lake which is believed to be over 30-years-old.
During a routing weed inspection, staff at the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont spotted what appeared to be a car in Regatta lake.
Nottinghamshire Police were called and established that the vehicle had been under the water for some time.
The Ford Capri is believed to be around 30-years-old. Nottinghamshire Police dive team pulled the car from the water the morning.
The car is considered a classic now and could be worth up to £15,000, but it is still a mystery as to how it got in the lake.
DS Nick Sawdon said: “We turned up for a dive training day but as so often happens we got a call and it was an unusual one – a car in Holme Pierrepont main water sports lake. I’ve been on the team since 1997 and never known a car go in there before.
The car’s registration plate shows it was registered in 1982. I joined the Police in 1988 so it may have been down there longer than my 26 years as an officer!
DS Nick Sawdon.
Brian Taylor, Chair of the Holme Pierrepont Leisure Trust, said: “It’s amazing the things that people throw away! The Police were fantastic and we are pleased that it is out of the lake no one else was involved.”
DS Sawdon suspects the car was stolen but he believes it’s been down there for so long that they may never know.
