Armed police and a helicopter searched woodland close to a pre-school in Nottinghamshire after what officers described as a ‘suspicious driving incident’.

Police were seen combing woodland to the rear of Papplewick Village Hall on Thursday afternoon.

The hall hosts Papplewick Pre-school, where staff spotted the police operation at around 2pm.

Supervisor Kelly Wright said: “There were police with dogs and a helicopter and I went down to have a look because we have to do a risk assessment to see whether we need to take the children out or keep them in.

“We had a phone call from a resident just to check we weren’t taking the children in to the woods because we take them on trips there sometimes.

“They left and we didn’t see anything else.”

A spokesman for Notts Police said: “Police are currently conducting a search in the Papplewick and Linby woods area.

“We were called at around 12.30pm to reports of a suspicious driving incident.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

No further information was provided by the force.
