PREVIEW: Notts ‘not thinking about being beaten’ in Boreham Wood FA Cup replay

Notts manager John Sheridan has said he is ‘not thinking about being beaten’ ahead of the Magpies’ FA Cup replay against Boreham Wood.

The replay takes place at Meadow Lane tonight (Tuesday November 15) with the winner playing League 1 Peterborough United at home in the second round.

The first staging of this tie finished in a 2-2 draw with Notts coming from 2-0 down to earn a replay.

John Sheridan is going into the game with a positive mindset.

The pressure is on but I expect us to win

He said: “I’m not thinking that we’re going to get beat, I’m thinking we’re going to win, and we’re going to win the two league games.

“That’s the way I think and that’s the way I want my players to think; I try not to think on the negative side.

“It’s going to be a difficult game after Saturday’s game with the pressure on us but I expect us to win.”

Notts come into the game on the back of a 4-0 loss away at Blackpool on Saturday (November 12) with Vadaine Oliver being sent off.

The result dropped County to eighth in the Sky Bet League 2 table.

Sheridan said he expected form to rise and fall in the way that it has for the Magpies so far this season.

Sheridan said: “It’s going to be very up and down – I said that before we kicked a ball, before the first game of the season.

“There’s going to be a lot of inconsistency but if we do show consistency we will be up there; you don’t have to play great.

“When I was at Chesterfield two or three years ago, you’d come to County and they wouldn’t have the best players in the world but they had a ‘we’re going to win’ mentality.

“They had that belief ‘they’re not going to come here and beat us’ and I don’t think we’ve got that in that team.”

We want to be looking at the top but you can get caught if you don’t win

Sheridan has his eyes on both ends of the table because of how close League 2 is.

“The teams at the top are slowly getting a few points adrift but the middle of the table is very tight and we’re not far off relegation.

“We don’t want to be looking at the bottom of the table, we want to be looking at the top but you can soon get caught if you’re not winning games.”
