Problems plaguing a new housing development on the former Kimberley brewery site have been “resolved in the main”, a Nottinghamshire council says.

Developer Fairgrove began work on the Hardy’s & Hansons brewery site in 2015, and new homes are being built across several different phases.

Some of the buildings, including the Grade-II listed maltings, kilns and tower, are being renovated as part of the scheme.

The brewery first opened in 1832, and the site falls under the Kimberley Conservation Area.

Broxtowe Borough Council says the developer was placed under investigation by the authority’s enforcement team due to breaches in planning permission, while councillors, and residents living in some of the finished homes, had raised concerns over the quality of work and flooding.

In December last year the council asked the developer to provide updates on progress to sort the problems every three months.

At a Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday (December 4), councillors noted a report which said the persisting problems had been largely dealt with.

“Planning matters initially raised have now been, in the main, resolved,” a report says.

An updated bat report has been submitted by the developer, which has satisfied the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, documents say.

According to the report, the developer has now started working to cover and repair the kiln roofs, while repairs to the brewery bridge over Hardy Street are under way.

During the meeting Cllr Peter Bales (Lab), who represents Watnall and Nuthall West, said: “It was nice to see, as there was concerns raised previously with the old bridge, it has now been done and done very sympathetically.

“There were concerns raised previously about that but actually how it has been carried out is a marked improvement.”

Fairgrove has been contacted for comment.
