The Crown, Beeston

 Address : 20 Church Street, Beeston, NG9 1FY

Whenever you see a big pub chain name outside a building, it can fill you with fear. However, Everards has pretty much left The Crown to its own devices – and it’s not difficult to see why.

Around a dozen handpulls on the bar are full of ever rotating real ales, as a visit to the pub’s website will testify. There’s also an ample selection of ciders and a growing nod to craft beers. During the summer, the beer garden is often transformed with an outdoor bar and street food vendors.

The interior is considered by Camra to be “historically important” – because of the wonderful snug and even smaller ‘confessional’ booth, where three’s a crowd. The huge car park/beer garden often also has guest breweries in the small outdoor bar area, besides the street food.

Music? Rarely. This is a place to have a proper conversation about beer. There a twice weekly quiz though.

Food? Cobs, crisps, pork pies. What’s not to like?

People? Students, locals and visitors who make a special journey.

Opinion? You might have already guessed; this is a NottsNight favourite. We’ve never known the place to be off form. But its popularity means you may be queuing for quite some time, depending on when you visit. Get in line, relax – it’ll be worth the wait.
