The Frame Breakers, Ruddington

Forget Robin Hood, the Frame Breakers of Nottinghamshire were the real rebels – and in 2015 the former Bricklayers Arms changed its name to honour this piece of significant local history. You can learn more about that at the Framework Knitters Museum in the village.
Some mourned the end of the rough and ready old “Brickies” interior, but the present owners – the Nottingham Brewery – have kept tradition alive with a large selection of their own real ales and a few guests always on tap.
The large interior provides plenty of space to relax – including a couple of cosy sofas – and there’s also a decent space outside, which is transformed during the annual Ruddfest (beginning of June) into a sprawling street food and drink area.
Music? Maybe some background tunes but nothing to interrupt a good pint and decent conversation.
Food? A full menu of pub favourites, and cheaper than some other outlets in Ruddington. Special offers include a weekly Burger Night.
People? Its village location inevitably means that this is a place for the locals. But being so close to the centre – and on a frequent bus route – the Frame Breakers attracts a wide variety of visitors.
Opinion? Modernisation was no bad thing – if you want a trip to the past, there are other nearby places for that. The Nottingham Brewery have so far been good custodians of this important village asset.
