Pupils at a Nottingham school were kept on lockdown while police dealt with what was described as a knife fight outside the gates.

Staff confirmed officers were called to Nottingham Academy Secondary’s Greenwood Road site in Bakersfield at 3.20pm (Tuesday April 25) and children were kept inside while the incident unfolded.

A Notts Police statement said they were “reports of an altercation outside the school involving two males with knives”.

It added: “One of the males suffered minor injuries. A knife was recovered nearby.”

A 16-year-old boy was arrested yesterday on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article. A second boy, 15, was arrested on suspicion of affray and wounding with intent.

Inspector Donna Busittil, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We have a close working relationship with the school and our partnership working will continue during our enquiries.”

A statement on the school’s website read: “For a short period of time Academy pupils were on lockdown within the school gates for safety, whilst police attended and resolved the incident. Pupils were then released to leave the site.

“Our pupils conducted themselves impeccably and with great maturity. Nottingham Academy are now assisting police with their investigation into the incident.

“Nottingham Academy will be open as normal tomorrow (April 26), where teachers will be available to provide support for pupils if needed. There will also be an additional police presence to reassure our community.”
