Thieves used a digger to smash through a wall and rip out a cash machine at a village supermarket.
Police say the vehicle was used to ram into Sainsbury’s in Bingham Road, Cotgrave in the early hours of Monday morning (August 7).
The thieves left the digger behind but carried the cash machine into another vehicle before driving off.
Gary Hunter, who lives in the village, came across the police cordon as he drove past this morning.
“I don’t think anyone is surprised really as it seems to be happening in surrounding areas a lot at the moment,” he said.
“I can’t believe no one heard or saw anything especially considering there is a Police base up the road. Albeit you never see any police around only the cars parked up.”
Liam Dean, who also lives nearby, said: “There was a large chuck missing from the building – enough to see in to the store, and the police cordoned off the car park.”
A Notts Police spokesman said: “The cash machine was taken in another vehicle described as a white vehicle, possibly an Audi.
“Officers are appealing for witnesses, or anyone who may have seen something suspicious before or after the incident, to contact them.”
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Notts Police on 101 quoting incident number 71 of August 7.
