A rapist who carried out attacks on two women in Nottingham more than 25 years ago has been jailed for 20 years.

On October 25 1992, Christopher Scott, now 64 of no fixed address, raped an 18-year-old woman after dragging her from a bus stop in Mansfield Road.

He forced her into a car after holding a knife to her throat and threatening to kill her.

Scott pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and a count of kidnap at Nottingham Crown Court in May 2017.

After Scott’s court appearance was publicised in the media, a woman saw his picture and identified him as the man who had attacked her a month before he carried out the rape.

Scott assaulted the then 17-year-old on Mapperley Hall Drive as she walked home on September 26 1992.

He punched the teenager, knocked her to the ground and assaulted her before attempting to drag her away but she screamed out and spooked Scott who then fled.

Her calls alerted a couple in a nearby house who came to her aid.

Scott was found guilty of indecent assault, assault and attempted kidnap on January 19 2018 following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

After being sentenced to 20 years for rape, he was also given nine-and-a-half years for kidnap, six-and-a-half years for robbery, four years for indecent assault, four years for attempted kidnap and three years for assault all to run concurrently.

Mrs Justice Carr described his attitude towards what he had done as ‘chilling’ as she handed him his sentence, for which she directed he will serve at least two thirds.

In a joint statement, both victims said: “Over 25 years ago, we were both attacked in our teenage years meaning we have lived more of our lives dealing with this than we have without.

“Those years were supposed to be filled with love, laughter, adventure and memories that would set us up for adulthood and our careers.

“Instead, we had those opportunities ripped from us and have been dealing with the effects of the nightmare ever since.

“Not only did it change our lives, but also the lives of our friends and family.

“He maintained his control over us, not only by not owning up to what he’d done all those years ago but by denying the charges and putting us through trial which just proves what type of human being he is.

“We hope the sentence he has been given today means he will remain in prison so he is unable to ruin any other lives.

“We want to thank every police officer that has been involved in this case, the prosecution and the judge for never giving up and allowing us this closure; even after 25 years things can come together.

“They have treated us with the utmost respect, dignity and compassion throughout.

“While the physical and emotional pain and anguish will never leave us, we would always urge any other victim to contact the police or tell someone that they trust.

“No matter how many years have gone by, there are good and kind people out there working hard to keep us safe and we can have confidence in them.”
