Robber who rammed woman’s head into the floor jailed for six years

A robber who rammed a woman’s head against the floor to steal her bag after she withdrew money from a cash point has been jailed for six years.

Nathan Johnson appeared at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (March 15).

He approached the woman from behind on Darley Road in Hyson Green at around 9.20am on November 18, after she had withdrawn money from a cashpoint.

The 34-year-old then struck her head against the floor and punched her in the face.

He then took her bag and ran off.

The victim was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre, where she was treated for injuries to her face, hands and arms.

Johnson, formerly of Fisher Street, Hyson Green, was arrested after police were alerted by CCTV operators that he was standing at a tram stop on Radford Road.

The court was told CCTV operators had seen him walk past the victim as she withdrew her money from the cash point, and was later seen watching her prior to the attack.

He was found guilty of robbery following a trial.

Detective Constable Elina Falcon said: “We are all very happy with this conviction and the sentence given by the crown court.

“This was an unprovoked attack on a vulnerable woman for no other reason than financial gain.”
