The aunt of seven year old Shanay Walker has been jailed for eight years for child cruelty. Shanay’s grandmother, Juanila Smikle has been given four years.
Shanay Walker was found dead in her home in Bestwood Park July 2014.
Kay-Ann Morris, 24, who was Shanay’s aunt and legal guardian has been given eight years for child cruelty.
Shanay’s grandmother, Juanila Smikle, 53, has been found guilty of cruelty towards her and three other children and has been sentenced to four years.
Morris was found not guilty of murder and was cleared of cruelty towards another child.
A post mortem examination showed that Shanay received injuries to her head and was covered in bruises.
The verdicts were announced at Nottingham Crown Court.
