Most of Nottinghamshire woke to snowfall on Friday – but forecasters say it’s unlikely to continue.
Notts was expected to avoid the snow which fell heavily in the south of England on Thursday and caused some travel disruption.
But early on Friday the icy weather and snow flakes arrived, and a yellow weather warning for ice is still in place for Nottinghamshire.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Some outbreaks of sleet and snow are likely to run quickly southwards on Friday morning, chiefly affecting parts of northern and eastern England, clearing the extreme southeast by late morning.
“This may give local accumulations of one to two cm and add to icy conditions in places.
“Ice will lead to the risk of disruption with difficult driving conditions and expect longer journey times.
“The greater risk of disruption is across the Midlands, East Anglia and southeast England.”
Over the weekend the weather is expected to clear in favour of sunny spells on Saturday, with highs of four degrees Celsius, and lows just above freezing.
