Friends of Melanie Wilson have set up a social media appeal to help cover costs for the funeral.
A Facebook group called R.I.P Melanie Wilson which has over 3,000 members, was initially set up as a search group to help find her when she was reported missing.
After police identified the body found in their searches as Miss Wilson’s on Saturday (November 5), the group turned its efforts to raise money to help cover the costs of her funeral.
Among the fundraising efforts are Just Giving and Go Fund Me pages, and a charity football match has also being organised.
I feel like I know her inside out and how much of an amazing friend she was
Kirsty Brown runs a fund called Where There’s Hope and set up the search group for Melanie.
She said: ” I got involved because Melanie is local and a friend got in touch asking for our help.
“I feel like I know her inside out now, what she liked, what made her laugh and how much of an amazing friend she was.
“This outcome as hit us all and I just wished I got chance to meet this amazing soul-of-the-party woman.”
Kirsty is urging anyone who wants to help to get in touch with her or the Facebook account.
She said: “We just want to give Melanie the best send off possible.”
After the news broke that the body found was hers, people paid their tributes to Melanie on social media.
Kevin Varley wrote: “RIP Mel and thoughts and condolences to everyone who knew her especially her family; another angel in heaven.”
Bev Brown wrote: “Gone too soon sweetheart, know that you were and are still loved, know you are missed and will never be forgotten, rest easy, hope you find your peace.”
The 22-year-old was reported missing from the Mansfield area on Friday October 21 after last being seen on Wednesday October 19.
Police had searched land and water for her and found her body outside of a property in Sutton-in-Ashfield on Thursday, November 3.
A post-mortem examination was carried out on Saturday, November 5, but the cause of death has yet to be identified.
However, police say the circumstances of her death are not thought to be suspicious.
