Three arrested over 1994 taxi driver murder released on bail

Three people arrested in connection with the murder of a Nottingham taxi driver in 1994 have been released on bail.

The three men had been detained last Wednesday morning (February 5) over the the killing of Ethsham Ul-Haq Ghafoor.

Mr Ghafoor, of Sherwood Rise, Nottingham, was known as Shami. The 26-year-old was found shot dead inside his cab on the morning of November 22 1994.

The three men arrested last week, aged 58, 57 and 55, were all detained on suspicion of murder at locations in Nottingham, Wollaton and Beeston.

On Monday (February 10) a Notts Police spokesman confirmed all three had since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Several arrests have been made over the years since the murder, but no-one has ever been charged over his “execution-style” killing.

So far, police have arrested nine people in connection with the death.

In January police also raided a property in Sneinton, Nottingham, saying they were looking for ammunition which may be linked to a murder weapon.

Shami was found by a milkman at 4.30am at Lambley Lane Playing Fields in Gedling with his hands tied and bound to the steering wheel.

Already the father of a five-year-old son, he was killed just five months before his baby daughter was born.
