Transfer deadline day preview: All three clubs still in market as Fawaz says Clough is “one on a list”

Transfer-Deadline-Day

Nottingham Forest chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi has said Nigel Clough is one option for the Forest job – but has not ruled out waiting until the summer to appoint a new manager.

Speaking to Talksport on Monday Al Hasawi said: “Clough is one on the list – maybe I go for Clough, maybe someone else, maybe Brazil until summer and appoint then.”

The chairman has been heavily criticised by fans for the lack of structure around the club but Fawaz Al Hasawi says that is to change in the coming months.

He also hinted that there is still money to spend over the remaining 24 hours of the transfer window, should Gary Brazil wish to further strengthen the squad.

“While the deal was on with them (John Jay Moores), I could not do anything my hands were tied, I could not bring anyone in because they wanted to bring their own people in.

“We are going to hire a chief executive and we are looking to hire a Director of Football, so we are moving on and things, I hope, will be back on track soon.”

Al Hasawi is expected to release a statement on the club’s website by the end of this week, which he says will help clear up the managerial situation and the future of the club.

He also told TalkSport: “Nigel Clough is a good manager and I talked to him a few days ago, so maybe it will happen with him or maybe it will happen with another manager. Still we are thinking about this, we don’t want to rush this, but I hope by the end of the week everything will be a little clearer.

“Fans want results and stability and this will happen with time. I cannot make things happen in one day, I do not blame the fans, I respect them but in the end they will realise what I am going to do for the club.”

Interim manager Gary Brazil announced the Reds first signing in the transfer window with Aaron Tshibola joining the club on a loan deal until the end of the season.

At his press conference today Brazil said: “Tshibola is athletic, knows Championship football and will offer competition for places.

“There is a list of players we are interested in and I am hopeful we will see more players come in within the next 48 hours.

“Joao Teixeira and Reece Oxford are two of several players that are on our list. I am confident we can get a few more players in.”

Forest play Rotherham tomorrow night at the City Ground and new signing Tshibola will be in the squad

At Meadow Lane, chairman Alan Hardy revealed the transfer embargo on the club has been lifted and that County are now free to sign players.

Notts have previously been linked with manager Kevin Nolan’s ex-teammate Carlton Cole and deals are expected to be completed in the next 48 hours.

Mansfield Town have signed forward Shaquile Coulthirst on loan from Peterborough until the end of the season with an option of signing a permanent deal with the 22-year-old striker.

Mitch Rose and Chris Clements have left the Stags permanently with Kevan Hurst signing for National League side Guiseley on loan until the end of the season.
