Rush hour delays are expected across Nottinghamshire as two lanes have been closed on the northbound carriageway of the M1 after a lorry caught fire.

The road is partially closed between junctions 29a and 30 between Sheffield and Chesterfield with Highways England working with emergency services to deal with the incident.

Lanes three and four are open with the inside two lanes closed.

Highways England expect delays throughout the evening and are advising drivers to plan their journeys, allow extra time and consider their routes.

Highways England operations manager Jim McGarva said: “We’re working hard to get the carriageway open and the debris from the fire cleared as quickly as possible.

“We’d ask drivers to plan their journeys before setting off.”

It is not known when the road will fully re-open.

The lorry was reported to be carrying recycled waste and caught fire at around 10.20am earlier today (Monday July 24).
