Two people have been summoned to court to answer charges of racially or religiously aggravated harassment in relation to comments captured in a video posted by a Nottingham Trent University student.
Joe Tivnan, 18, of The Parklands in Birmingham and Lauren Leigh, 18, of Hampden Street in Nottingham, have been summoned to Magistrates’ Court on May 24.
A second man who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released with no further action.
It comes after a black student posted a video on Twitter in March which she said captured racist language being shouted outside the door to her room in halls of residence.
In issuing an update on the case, Nottinghamshire Police said: “We are reminding people this is an active ongoing investigation and legal proceedings are active.
“As such, the force is urging people to be careful when posting any prejudicial comments on social media as these can place you in contempt of court.”
