A young woman who died in an accident on the A52 heading towards Derby has been named.

Xizhu Miao, who was 26, collided with a car on the Derby Road section of the road, near to the entrance of Wollaton Park.

Since the incident, a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing her death by dangerous driving, but was released without charge.

However, a 24-year-old woman was arrested for the same offence and remains on police bail.

Nottinghamshire’s Coroner Mairin Casey opened an inquest into Xizhu Miao’s death today (Friday April 21) and said: “She studied at Nottingham Trent University and lived in Beeston.

“Sadly, she was struck by a car when she was crossing the A52 towards Derby as a pedestrian at 11.15pm on October 8.

“The car travelled in the direction of Priory Island; Xizhu Miao was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre where she was found to be terribly unwell.

“She then suffered a cardiac arrest where she received medical help but her injuries were unsurvivable.

“It is being investigated by the police and may well be dealt with in the criminal court without a date for an inquest.”

Notts Police confirmed investigations are still ongoing.
