Police are trying to reunite a set of lost war medals with their owner ahead of Remembrance Day.

The medals were found near to the Odeon Cinema on London Road in Newark at around 11pm on the day of the Mayor’s Parade, Sunday, June 5.

Notts Police have run an appeal through social media which has so far been unsuccessful.

The Medals Office believe the set could be replicas as there are no serial numbers on them.

Julie Cubbin from Nottinghamshire Police said: “They are very distinctive and have clearly been owned by someone who looked after them.

“I have to say a special thanks to PCSO Jonathan Dye who really has gone to great lengths to find this person, without success so far.

“We just hope that they may be about to go into their cupboard ahead of Remembrance and realise that they’re missing and get in touch.”

Thousands of people will attend ceremonies across Nottinghamshire on Sunday for Remembrance Day.

The city’s main service will take place at the War Memorial, Victoria Embankment, on Sunday, from 10.45am.

The service will be conducted by the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham the Right Reverend Paul Butler.

And at 11am on Old Market Sqaure, members of the 307 Battery South Notts Hussars will fire a gun to begin and end a minute’s silence.

If you know who the medals might belong to or think you can help, please contact Newark Police Station on 101, quoting Found Property Reference number 177237.
